皇居外苑休憩所 / Imperial Palace Outer Garden Rest House

この皇居外苑休憩所は祝田橋を渡って右手の苑路の奥にあります。老朽化した旧施設を改築し、300人の人が休憩できる公共のカフェです。江戸時代には浜辺の美しい松林だったこの場所の心象風景を内包するようデザインされています。西陽と照り返しを和らげる深い軒と、東側の楠の森の静かな眺めを確保している緑青銅板の大屋根が印象的です。

The Imperial Palace Outer Garden Rest House is located at the bottom of a garden path at the side of Iwaida-bashi. The former old lounge was renovated to this brand-new public cafe of 3 0 0 capacities. This area, occupied by beautiful pinewoods planted during the Edo era (17-19 century) , is designed to keep and reflect its old memories in the landscape. Long eaves soften the western sunlight and reflected heat while big copper rust roofs keep the peaceful view of the eastern part of camphor trees.
