岡山県津山市の酪農試験場跡地(28ha)整備事業として芸術文化村が構想されました。全体のマスタープランは変化に富む自然の地形を生かしながら、コミュニティホールや音楽ホール、劇場、アトリエ、ギャラリー、宿泊施設群などが有機的に連携し、活発なアクティビティをサポートしてゆくよう注意深く配置されました。夜空の星が星座をつくり出すようなネットワークを想定しています。まず、最初にホールとメディアライブラリーをもつリージョンセンターが建設されました。このホールは高さ10mの大扉になっているステージのバックウォールが広場に向かって開き、屋外と一体になる仕掛けをもっています。これによって広場が観客席、ホールがステージに、あるいは広場がステージにホールが観客席になるという大胆な使い方が可能になりました。

The art and culture village was designed in a course of redevelopment program of a former dairy experiment farm (28 hectares) at Tsuyama-city, Okayama. In the master plan, we designed community hall, music hall, theater, atelier, gallery and guest houses on the natural undulating site so that they would be organized closely and support mutually in their activities. We conceive a network as a constellation of stars at night sky. In the execution, firstly, Region Center with hall and Media Library was completed. The hall can be integrated with outdoor space when a back wall as 10 meter height doors on the stage are opened toward the plaza. The system allows the amazing convertibility between plaza and auditorium, hall and stage, plaza and stage, or hall and auditorium.
